Frequently Asked Questions
How did the Toronto Raptors fare after Kawhi Leonard's departure?
The Toronto Raptors enjoyed a historic year. The Raptors won 53 consecutive games during the 2020 season. All-Star point guard Kyle Lowry was the key to the team's success. He averaged 19.7 points and 7.5 assists per game. Lowry was joined by fellow All-Star forward Pascal Siakam, who averaged 22.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game. Norman Powell and Fred VanVleet made significant contributions for the Raptors. They were able to overcome injuries to Serge Ibaka and Marc Gasol thanks to their depth and talent.
The team was led and managed by Nick Nurse, Coach of the Year, and Pascal Siakam, All-NBA Second Teamer. . Siakam, who averaged almost 20+ points per match, made bold strategic decision that paid off. Kyle Lowry was chosen to the 2020 NBA All-Star roster, his sixth consecutive selection.
The playoffs started later than usual this season, in August at the "Bubble", Bay Lake, Florida near Orlando. The Raptors faced off against the Brooklyn Nets in the first round and won 4-0. The Raptors fell 0-2 against Boston Celtics in Round 2. However, OG Anunoby struck a buzzer-beater to win Toronto in the third round. The series eventually went to seven games, with Boston prevailing.
What is the name of the Toronto Raptors' mascot?
The Toronto Raptors are a NBA franchise which was established in 1995. They play at Scotiabank Arena.
Raptor is the Raptors' mascot. He is a giant, red dinosaur. Raptor first appeared in 1995. He also makes appearances throughout Toronto, participating in charity events and community initiatives. In 2019, he received the NBA Mascot of the Year award for his many years of service to the Raptors organization. Raptor is a well-known figure in Toronto, as well as around the NBA. This makes him one of professional sports' most popular mascots. Raptor has become an international symbol for Canada's basketball fandom.
Many in the country and throughout the city share Raptor’s enthusiasm for his team as well as its fans. Raptor was the Raptors' most prominent leader and they won their first NBA championship in 2019. This was a historic moment for Canadian basketball fans. Raptor continues being a source to pride for all Raptors. Raptors pride is guaranteed to continue as long as the Raptors are around. The Raptor will live on! Go, Toronto Raptors!
What year did the Raptors beat Chicago Bulls?
The Raptors defeated Chicago Bulls on March 24, 1996. They would go on to win the NBA Championship in 1996. The final score was 109-108. Michael Jordan attempted a last-second shot to try and win the game for the Bulls, but it did not count because it was after the final buzzer had sounded.
Why did NBA leave Vancouver?
NBA left Vancouver after a dispute regarding arena financing. The City of Vancouver was to contribute $40million towards the construction a new basketball venue. This would include 12 luxury suites as well as two restaurants, a bar and a hotel. However, the City Council wanted $60 million in taxpayer money for the team owners to pay off their existing debt. This meant the city would have to borrow $200 million to build the arena, while the team owners only had to pay back $20 million in debt. The city would have to pay the remainder of the loan back.
The City Council agreed that the plan could be approved if the NBA was willing to continue playing at Rogers Arena through the opening of the new facility. The league, however, refused to accept the plan. They claimed that the arena was not large enough. It was too small for them to continue playing there. They felt it unfair to ask them for more revenue by asking them to stay in the smaller venue.
The City Council then requested that the province step in to offer financial assistance. Although the province offered $150 million to the project, the City Council needed $100 million more. At that point, the City decided to stop its plans and concentrate on building a new downtown arena.
What was the Raptors best year?
The 2019 championship season was Toronto Raptors’ best year. It was a thrilling, memorable season for Toronto Raptors. The Raptors won their first NBA Championship in franchise history. The team posted a 58-24 record during the regular season, with Kawhi Leonard named Finals MVP. They defeated the Golden State Warriors in six games to take home the title.
In 2013, the Toronto Raptors changed their front office, replacing then-general manager Bryan Colangelo with Masai Ujiri. This change would bring a new era to the franchise and make them one of NBA's best teams.
The Raptors were able to make a comeback under Ujiri and made it to the playoffs in 2014. They have won five Division titles since then. Their most successful regular season was in 2018. Ujiri also made an unorthodox but successful trade in that year, sending DeMar DeRozan and Kawhi Leonard to the San Antonio Spurs.
The Raptors had a fantastic 2019, clinching their first conference championship and making it to the NBA finals for the inaugural time. They beat the Golden State Warriors in six games.
Ujiri's tenure with the Raptors has been a resounding success, and he should be credited with changing the team's fortunes. His leadership has made the Raptors one of the most successful teams in the NBA, and they look set to continue to be contenders for many years.
The 2019 championship season will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the best years in the Raptors' history.
Ujiri as well as the Toronto Raptors must continue to build a culture that supports their players, staff and players. The future of this team looks bright with their dedication to excellence. The 2019 championship season has set the bar for Toronto Raptors, and it's up to Ujiri and his team to continue building on this success.
When was the Raptors' first playoff series won?
Toronto defeated New York 3-2 in their first playoff series. They advanced to the Eastern Conference semifinals under Lenny Wilkens, for the first time in franchise history.
